The United States Department of Education has just released updated Non-Regulatory guidance for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant. The Non-Regulatory guidance is intended to be used in conjunction with the applicable statute and regulations including the Education Department General Administrative Requirements (EDGAR) and the Office of Management and Budget Guidance for Federal Financial Assistance (Uniform Guidance), 2 C.F.R. Part 200. The Department is issuing this guidance to provide State educational agencies (SEAs) and their subgrantees with information to assist them in meeting their obligations under the 21st CCLC program. You can read more about it here Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program Title IV, Part B of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 Non-Regulatory Guidance.

National Technical Assistance Center (NTAC)

Visit National Technical Assistance Center (NTAC) to explore a wealth of tools and materials designed to keep you informed and up-to-date. Here are a few resources to check out this month.

Guiding Positive Student Behavior: When you think of behavior, adjectives like polite, focused, hard-working, hyperactive, disorganized, and rude might come to mind. These adjectives suggest subjective judgments about a student’s behavior rather than providing specific, objective descriptions of the behavior itself. Sometimes we interpret students’ negative behaviors personally, but it’s rarely about us. More often, student behavior reflects life circumstances they — and we — cannot control. In the 21st CCLC NTAC’s mini-course on guiding positive student behavior, you’ll gain knowledge and strategies to help you manage activities and guide your students to express their emotions in healthy ways. Peruse the related toolkit for guidance on creating group norms, engaging students, providing feedback, and more.

Learning Recovery: Let our Learning Recovery course and toolkit build your capacity to help students recover from missed learning opportunities. The course will guide you in mixing academic skills and knowledge with fun and engaging activities for students. Explore all eight sections on our professional learning page. Use the toolkit to help apply what you learn in the course, through checklists, planners, activity ideas, tip sheets, research summaries, and more. The toolkit bundles tools in five topic areas: planning and implementation, literacy, math, social and emotional learning, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics).

Career Exploration and Skill Development is a web page from youth.gov that offers a wealth of resources to help young people explore various career options, develop job skills, and prepare for the workforce. The page also includes guidance for educators, parents, and youth service providers to support youth in their career development journey.

Family Engagement to Support College and Career Pathway Success is a collection of learning briefs that outlines strategies to support student success in college and career readiness and highlights the importance of personalized learning plans, career exploration, and partnerships between schools, families, and communities.

Center for Family Life

In Sunset Park at MS 136 and MS 821 campers presented the end-of-summer show, Planting Stories: the Life of Librarian and Storyteller Pura Belpre, based on the picture book by Anika Aldamuy Denise and Paola Escobar. Campers acted, danced and sang original songs to tell the story of Pura Belpre and celebrate the incredible contribution she made by ensuring diverse stories had a lasting place on the shelves of New York City libraries.

Campers at Center for Family Life in Sunset Park at PS 516 celebrated the end of summer camp by presenting their show CFL Through the Decades. Over the course of the 6-week summer, each camp group learned an original dance to a song from a different decade, spanning from the 1950's through the 2010's, taking audience members on a journey that truly delighted!"
